Iqaluit International Airport

Our airport code is YFB. Canada snagged all the Ys, the FB stands for Frobisher Bay. All three daily jet flights between Ottawa and Iqaluit arrive and depart at pretty much the same time, lunchtime. Standard procedure is to go check in around 10am, drop off your checked bags, get your boarding card and then leave the airport. You have a couple of hours to kill but instead of being limited to the confines of the airport you can do as you wish, go home, to work, the grocery store... Return to the airport at the appropriate time with your boarding pass and ID (that is another story) then proceed through security to the teeny airside section. When your flight is ready you walk out to the plane in a big crocodile taking care to follow the directions of the ground crew so you don't get sucked into a jet prop.

We flew First Air and spent the three hour flight drinking wine, watching Justifed on the iPad (Timothy Oliphant is on the list) and trying to touch the bulkhead with our toes. Seats 2A thru C are the bomb, there was no pesky third passenger to encroach on our space and we had oodles of leg room. Add to that the kindly flight attendant who made sure to fill our wine glasses all the way and at suitably short intervals, we were happy bunnies on that flight.

Air Canada from Ottawa to Vancouver was another story, a story of poor customer service, arrogance and disappointment that deserves a blog post all of it's own.
